Trustee
Giuseppe Labriola is an experienced senior nursing and midwifery leader and Director of Nursing at Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust which is the largest NHS Trust in England. He brings extensive executive-level experience across large, complex healthcare organisations, with a strong track record in quality improvement, patient experience and safety, workforce development, and inclusive leadership.
Giuseppe has held a range of senior leadership roles, including Executive Chief Nurse, Deputy Chief Nurse, and Director of Midwifery. Across these roles, he has led major transformation programmes focused on improving care quality, regulatory compliance, staff experience, and clinical outcomes, often in high鈥慶hallenge and high鈥憇crutiny environments. He is recognised for his visible, values鈥慴ased leadership style and his ability to balance operational delivery with compassionate, person鈥慶entred care.
A strong advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion, Giuseppe has led organisation鈥憌ide initiatives to improve the experience and progression of globally recruited and under鈥憆epresented staff groups, embedding shared decision鈥憁aking, restorative supervision, and professional recognition into everyday practice. His work has included establishing professional councils, commissioning programmes of work to hear the voice of the workforce, and sponsoring leadership development programmes.
Giuseppe brings significant governance experience, including board鈥憀evel oversight, regulatory engagement, and risk鈥慴ased decision鈥憁aking. He has worked closely with national bodies including the Care Quality Commission where he is a specialist advisor, with NHS England and has chaired and contributed to programmes addressing quality, safety, and leadership capability at scale. He also has experience as a charity trustee with the Anne Robson Trust and a particular interest in how strong clinical leadership improves patient outcomes and organisational culture.
Giuseppe is passionate about being a nurse and midwife. He has represented midwifery across the UK as being the chair of the Royal College of Midwives. He is a proud Florence Nightingale Scholar, having completed the aspiring director of nursing leadership programme in 2020
